Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I have to be invited to come to the Performance Centre? Any young player is welcome to come to the Performance Centre on a training evening to watch or to participate in the training and to have a chat to the coaches. Players can try out the PC for 3 weeks and, after this time, they may be invited to join the PC. Players who are not yet ready for the Performance Centre can be directed to one of our satellite clubs.
Q: How do I know if I’m good enough? The PC is split into three training groups: Raw, Developing and Emerging. Whilst Emerging players typically play in the higher county squads the Raw players will show an aptitude for the sport but may not have played much.
You can try out the PC for up to 3 weeks. During this time the coaches can assess whether they think you are ready for the PC environment and you can decide whether it is right for you.
Q: Do I have to attend both nights? Badminton England’s Performance Centre criteria specify a minimum number of PC coaching hours per week. If you are concerned about this, talk to Andy Hartley, our Head Coach
Q: What if I get injured part way through the season? The coaches will make every effort to adapt your training to allow for your injury. If this is not possible, you will need to contact chair@worcesterbadmintonpc to discuss options.
Q: Do I have to play for a club? Club membership is not a pre-requisite for joining the PC. However, you may find that, as your training progresses, you want to join a club for additional playing practice and for match experience. See the coaches for details of clubs that the PC has links with.
Q: How old do I have to be? We have players ranging in age from 9 to 18. Age is not an issue so much as a willingness to work hard and a drive to improve.
